Peter Nagel is a leading figure among the young generation of Slovak pianists. He has appeared as a soloist with the Slovak Philharmonic, the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina and the Banská Bystrica Chamber Orchestra, and regularly performs at major concert venues in Slovakia and abroad (Bratislavské hudobné slávnosti, CLASS!CAL: festival koncertného umenia, PIANO DAYS, Nedeľné matiné v Mirbachovom paláci, Sólo-duo-trio, Festival Bachovej hudby v Banskej Štiavnici, Trenčianska hudobná jar, Hudobné leto v Trenčianskych Tepliciach, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary). His latest album, Keys to the Present (2024), featuring works by Juraj Hatrík and Franz Liszt, was released by the Music Fund Slovakia.

 

In addition to his solo career, he regularly performs in a piano duo with pianist Zuzana Patkoló. The Nagel-Patkolo Piano Duo was founded in 2011 during their studies at VŠMU. The duo focuses on the interpretation of works for two pianos as well as piano four-hands repertoire. In 2015, they won first prize at the international “21st Century Art” Competition in Vienna. Their extensive repertoire includes numerous Slovak premieres of works by composers such as Ľuboš Bernáth, Edward MacDowell, Samuel Barber, Arnold Bax, Cécile Chaminade, and Jiří Laburda. Their album Souvenirs (2025), featuring works by S. Barber and Ľ. Bernáth, was released by VŠMU Edition and Real Music House.

 

Peter Nagel graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU) under Prof. Ida Černecká, later serving as her assistant. In 2015–2016, he completed an internship at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno with Prof. Jan Jiraský and attended numerous masterclasses (Elena Richter, Ivan Klánský, Viviana Sofronitzki, Karl-Andreas Kolly, Robert DeGaetano, Aleksandar Serdar, among others). In 2016, he represented Slovakia at the prestigious international showcase Piano Forte – The Next Generation in Vienna. A curated selection from these concerts was released by the Vienna-based label Gramola (2017).

 

Alongside his concert career, he serves as Chairman of the Concert Artists Guild, is a board member of the Music Fund Slovakia, and contributes occasionally as a reviewer for the magazine Hudobný život. At the Faculty of Music and Dance of VŠMU, he holds the position of Vice-Dean for Study Affairs and works as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Keyboard Instruments. He is also involved in elementary music education at the J. Kowalský Elementary School of Arts in Bratislava.
